elf-storage is nothing new, many Australian businesses have been making use of flexible storage for decades. But in the removals space, self-storage is a relatively new service which many homeowners are not aware of.
As a result, we often get asked how does self-storage work? So in this guide, we are going to run through the process from start to finish. That way you’ll have a better idea whether self-storage is the right option for you.
Basically, self-storage is a service where you can securely store your possessions in between moves. This is ideal if you are not able to move into your new home immediately or if you have too much furniture for your new property.
Most self-storage companies offer a range of storage options which can be booked on a long or short term basis. You simply book the space you need and move your stuff in. Let’s take a look at how this process works in practice.
The first thing you need to do is think about how long you need the storage for. You can book storage from a single week to several months, with discounts available for longer stays. So decide how long you need the storage for and then look for the best quote.
Next, you’ll need to think about how much space you need. At O’Grady’s Transport & Removals we offer storage in secure shipping containers. These are available in standard ISO shipping container sizes which are 2.43m wide, 2.59m high and come in two lengths, 6.06m and 12.2m. You can book as many of these containers as you need.
Once you have decided how much space you need you simply need to book your space. During busy times of the year, usually spring and autumn, space may be limited so we suggest booking early if you can. You can obtain a FREE quote by completing the contact form here .
4. Arrange packing and transport
Once your space is booked you need to arrange packing and transport. We provide a range of packing materials to help protect your valuables. Options include cardboard boxes, bags, tape, bubble wrap and mattress covers. Check out the full range of packing options here .
You will also need to arrange transport to transfer your items into the unit. We offer a range of low-cost transport options in the Lismore and Ballina area. Get in touch today for a FREE quote .
When moving day arrives it’s simply a case of transferring your belongings into your container. Once transferred, you will be issued with a key. For security reasons, this will be the only key to the container, so remember to keep it safe. An extra charge will be levied to replace the lock should you lose the key.
