Summer is an ideal time to declutter your home and the experts here at O’Grady’s Transport and Removals can help. You can clear things out and end up with a tidier and more organised space. Don’t know where to start? Use these handy summertime decluttering tips and you’ll be done before you know it.

Go Through Closets

In many homes, wardrobes are the place where everything without a place of its own ends up. That can lead to overflowing spaces that pour out onto the floor anytime the door is open. Start by going through all the wardrobes in your home, removing clothing that is outdated, doesn’t fit or that you don’t want. Do the same with coats, jackets, shoes and sporting equipment. Throw away or donate what you are getting rid of. Then organise what’s left onto hangers and into drawers so it’s easy to find when you need it.

Declutter the Pantry

It happens to everyone - without even realising it your pantry is suddenly bursting at the seams and you’re not sure what to do with all that food. Take everything out and toss items that are expired. Then stack what’s left back on the shelves according to type, putting items that expire sooner at the front. Donate what you don’t want to a local food kitchen or homeless shelter.

Don’t Forget the Bathroom

Go through all the drawers and shelves in your bathrooms, tossing expired products, including soap, lotion, and cosmetics. Get rid of towels and cloths that are old and musty and organise what’s left into size and use. Toss old toothbrushes and wipe out drawers so they’re clean and ready for new stuff.

Piles of Paper

They seem to be everywhere - piles of paper you’re planning to get to but haven’t yet. Now is a great time to sort through all those bills, file what you need to keep, and recycle what you don’t need. Go through school papers, tax bills, and anything else, shredding items that are old and that aren’t needed anymore. File the rest of it with like items so you can easily find it if you need it.
