Best Way To Move A Fridge

Dec 08, 2022

If you need to transport a fridge because of a house move, a new purchase or any other reason, then you're probably wondering what your options are and the best way to do it. After all, fridges are large, heavy items that require special care when being moved.

Moving a fridge can seem daunting, but there are several ways to tackle it depending on the size of the refrigerator and how much help you need. Here’s a look at the different ways you can move a fridge from house to house.

In A Van

One of the most common methods for moving your fridge is using a van. Since fridges typically come in standard sizes, they are easy to transport this way. If you already have access to one, this is a cost-effective way to move your refrigerator.

Just make sure that it is secured properly before driving off in order to prevent any damage during transit. You need the vehicle to be large enough so that the door can open and close after the fridge is loaded – driving with the fridge protruding out of the van is unsafe and could damage the appliance.

Via A Trailer

If you don’t have access to a van, another option is to hire a trailer. Trailers come in all shapes and sizes, so no matter what size refrigerator you have, there should be an appropriate trailer for it. Your trailer hire company should be able to advise you on the most suitable solution.

Before loading the fridge, make sure that it is properly secured using straps, blankets, and/or bubble wrap. This will prevent any damage from occurring during transport. It also helps to place some cardboard between the sides of the trailer and your fridge so that if any shifting occurs during transport, your appliance won’t get scratched up in the process.

Use A Dolly

If you only need to move your fridge a very short distance and don’t need access to a van or trailer, then consider using a dolly. Dollies are relatively inexpensive and easy to use; they allow you to roll the refrigerator instead of lifting it up and carrying it around. Before using one, make sure that the dolly has locking wheels so that your fridge doesn't roll away.

Dollies are great for moving smaller fridges and will allow you more control over where and how quickly you move them since they are equipped with wheels and handles. Just make sure that anyone helping to move the fridge has adequate safety equipment like gloves and proper footwear.

Hire A Professional Moving Service

For larger fridges, or if you want someone else doing all the heavy lifting for you, consider hiring a professional moving service like O’Grady’s Transport & Removals instead. It's often much more cost-effective than people think.

They will handle even larger refrigerators with ease thanks to their knowledge and experience. Plus, most professional movers offer insurance coverage against any damages incurred during transit too, which provides extra peace of mind when moving something as valuable as your refrigerator.

Moving a fridge from one house to another might seem daunting at first, but don’t worry. While moving fridges requires patience and careful attention, there are plenty of options available for relocating your refrigerator safely and efficiently without breaking the bank. From renting a van or trailer to using a dolly or simply hiring professional movers, you can find something that works for you and fits within your budget.
