Packing up your home to move house is an activity that few of us relish. It is often time-consuming and no matter how early you start packing, it’s nearly inevitable that you’ll end up scrambling around trying to get all your belongings ready for the move.
This doesn’t even take into consideration how you’re going to fit all your belongings into the packing crates that you have handy.
There’s no doubt that packing can be stressful. One way to make it less so is to know how to pack your home efficiently to save space. Not sure how to go about this?
Take a look at our top packing tips here:
If you have a habit of ending up with a tonne of excess stuff you don’t necessarily need, then there is no better way to start your move by doing a major declutter before you start packing in earnest.
Getting rid of things that you don’t need or use will save you a heap of time in your packing later and can help to create room for the items that matter. It’s also a great way to spring clean your belongings to make way for things that you may use more.
Rather than using extra packing material to secure your goods, why not utilise items such as clothing, bedding and towels? This will help keep your breakables secure and maximise space for other belongings by packing your bulky material items around those fragile items.
Try utilising the free space in your dressers or desk drawers to keep small, lightweight items in them. Using your drawers as moving containers will help free up space for other items. Keep your drawer contents inside the drawers by wrapping them in stretch wrap during the shift.
Vacuum seal bags are a fantastic way of condensing bulky material items down into much more manageable sizes. Once packed you simply use your vacuum to suck the air out of the bag and shrink down the space that the bags use. These are a great way to maximise space for your move and are also a smart way to store some of your clothing while you aren’t using it.
The nesting packing technique is a clever way of packing your belongings so that items sit within other items of similar shapes. You can do this for things such as kitchen bowls or empty plant pots, hats and shoes to name a few. If you have items that contain hollow spaces, why not try putting smaller items inside?
This is a really good way to maximise available space while you’re moving and will help keep your belongings secure as well.
While moving home and packing up your belongings can seem stressful, it doesn’t have to be. Taking some time to pack smart can not only help you maximise your space efficiently, but it can save you a lot of time as well.
